Branagh's Love's Labor's Lost: A musical
This play tells the story of a king and his three lords who agree
to live the life of scholars (chaste and secluded) for three years. Their fortitude is immediately tested by the
arrival of a princess and her three ladies, with whom the men instantly fall in
love. The rest of the play is the
comedic efforts of the men to woo their ladies, while preventing the other
three from discovering what they are up to.
As usual, everything turns out all right in the end.
Branagh's version of Love's Labor's Lost was not as
successful as some of his other films, but is still entertaining and well
done. Branagh sets the play in the
Twenties, and has several song and dance numbers.
